Newb - probably an easy question?

Hello all, and welcome to my second post. There are still complimentary cheese and crackers.

I went car-free about 2 years ago with a Scott hybrid, and love it. Now that I'm considering an upgrade, I can't find a good variety to choose from; probably for lack of knowing where to look.

I know what I want, just don't know what it's called or who makes it:

Front suspension.
Straight handlebars, horns in the center for speed.
Road tires.
As lightweight as possible (no bags or fancy mounts needed)
Able to ride road at speed and handle gravel-trail type nature jaunts in comfort.

It seems most companies don't distinguish 'hybrids' with front suspension from those without, or those with drop handlebars from those with straight, or by road tires or just 'hybrid' mountain tires. What do I Google to find this specific species of all-purpose commuter/toodle-arounder?

Any help would be great, I'm just shooting in the dark at the moment :D

Thanks!

If you mean aerobars, you may have to add them- I don't think I've ever seen them on a bike with suspension.

The problem is, you don't mention how much you want to spend or the type of ride you have on your commute. Are you going to be jumping curbs? If you want something fast, durable, with front suspension... and price is limitless, I recommend a Bruce Gordon Rock & Road with drop handlebars, mountain bike tires, and a suspended front fork.

Hmmm.....Cannondale Bad Boy? Kona Dew FS? Specialized Crosstrail? Marin Sausalito?.....to name a few.

Well, I've just had an enormously fun and informative morning of test rides. Cyclocross is what I was looking for, front shocks be damned. Thanks a mint for the advice, I'm off to the appropriate forum to learn more!
