Pls Tell me About My Frame

FrameLabel 002.jpg

Here's the label on my Bottecchia bike that I bought new in 1991.

The words on the sides are "CARBONIO" and "MANGANESE."

So what is it made of?

Corrosion is a concern here, since I'm right by the ocean, and everything corrodes.

Thanks,

It is steel. Carbon and manganese are both commonly added to chrome-moly steel. If you are concerned about corrosion, make sure to keep the frame waxed and if you have the opportunity to strip the bike down, have the insides of the frame tubes treated with JP Weigle Frame Saver.
