Cycling abroad.
In about a month, I'll be getting on a plane for Japan and won't be back for 8 months. I'll be living and working there and want to have a bicycle. I'll most likely be in Saitama City or Utsunomiya and do not know about the prospect of getting a bicycle there. My uncle mentioned maybe bringing my bike (Bianchi Axis) with me on the plane and I became interested.
My question is this: How do I go about bringing my bicycle with me? AirCanada allows me to bring a bike but I don't know where to get luggage or if doing so would justify the cost. Has anyone got any experience with this sort of thing? Any help/advice is appreciated.

If you can, ship your bicycle in a hard case via UPS or another good carrier, as opposed to playing the game with airlines. Airlines can charge up to $600 for it.

I'm in Taiwan and have no idea what the prices of bikes are in Japan, however I'd guess you'd be ahead overall considering you'll be there for 8 months, to just buy in Japan. Enjoy your stay, Japan is a beautiful country.

Here in Bike Forums, there's a section called "Regional Discussions", "Asia".
You might want to try it.
