Have too many bikes?
What are we doing?
Does anyone else here believe that they (or their SOs) have way too many bikes?
How many bikes do you have? Of those, how many are actively being used? How many are "project" bikes? If your project bikes outnumber your active ones, you just might be obsessed w/ bikes.
I admit that I am.

Hello.
Yes I have to many bikes
Cannondale R500, Rans Stratus, Bike Friday NWT, Rockhopper made to comuter bike
one bare frame Nishiki mountain bike. I ride a couple of them mainly sometimes others but I really don't need four bikes. How can you choose which one of your children to get rid of?
Happy biking

One can honestly say one has "to many bikes" if the bikes in question are non-operational.
A store house , or collection of, "junk bikes" is both wasteful as well as useless.

A couple of weeks ago I had a six bike week. I had to start over on the seventh day because I was out of bikes. I can't think of any genre' of bike that I want to add anytime soon.
I'd definitely let a couple of bikes go for a favorable offer so I'm thinking they must be excess.

Full bikes-
One Mountain bike- 2007 Felt Q720
One Commuter/Greenway bike- 2008 Raleigh Detour Deluxe
Sorta bikes-
One 1980's Murray 10 speed in pieces
A couple boxes of random parts like handlebars and cables
As soon as I get some more money (read: win the lottery) I'm getting a few more ponies for the stable-
One Cyclocross bike
One Folding bike
and maybe a Tandem too!
To answer your question- you can never have too many bikes!

We recently cut down from 13 to six, for me, my wife and two kids in their 20s who keep their bikes at my house. I kept my Atlantis, Rambouillet, Cannondale MB and an old Trek converted to singlespeed, and my wife has a road bike and mountain bike she rarely uses. My son moved his Bridgestone out, I sold an Allez to a friend and we donated my daughter's bike, which she hadn't ridden in five years, and some low-end rides to a local charity (an '80s Hard Rock, Diamondback Sorrento, stuff like that). I can't really justify even the four I kept--I ought to dump everything else and just keep the Atlantis, which is pretty versatile. But screw it, we have the room and they're paid for and I like 'em. I don't worry about it.

As far as currently functional i have a touring bike, a road bike, and a mountain bike.
I have a cruiser and another road bike in the process of being refinished, and another mountain bike in the queue.
The touring serves as my commuter, the road bike is for exercise, and the cruiser is/was for funsies (not currently in use because it's in pieces and its components are in dozens of zip lock bags). Not sure what to do with the mountain bike, as i prefer to hike the trails...
So perhaps i do own too many bicycles.... but i doubt anyone can pry them out of my fingers. :.)

Not sure what the current count is... Ridable still out number projects...I think
Last time I counted there were 13 ridable and 4 projects, mostly waiting on various parts to wend their way from across the globe. I ride 3-4 regularly and my bride has 2 favorites. Some bikes I have are waiting to be stripped down and recycled (probably a dozen or so). Those are usually the low end ones that someone gave me because they know I like bikes. I will take anything because you never know when a jewel might show up

What is this 'too many bikes' blasphemy of which you speak, commie?

You can't be too rich, too thin, or have too many bikes. I have the following:
1 modern road bike
2 vintage road bikes
1 fixed gear bike
1 touring bike
1 dual-suspension mountain bike
1 vintage hard tail mountain bike
Plus there's my wife's and my son's mountain bikes.
So 9 bikes in the house at the moment. I'm primarily a roadie and my wife and son haven't been doing any riding lately so the four mountain bikes have been idle. The other 5 are used regularly.

Got to have at least two; in case one breaks down. I'm seriously contemplating a third. I have a hybrid and an mtb. Thinking of getting either a road bike or a tourer.

My bikes are listed over there <---- .
I could use a nice vintage to add to the collection.

I figure as long as there's someone out there with more bikes than me, I am safe. And currently, there's someone over in Classic & Vintage who LOST COUNT at 40
(I have 2 I ride regularly, a tourer and a city cruiser/utility bike; 1 folding bike because it is cute; and 2 mountain bikes, one belonging to The Boy and one that will probably become an Xtracycle. Oh, and a semi-stripped bike I pulled out of the garbage, because i want to practice frame painting).

8 Bikes, most of them projects, I need to sell some to fix my cars

Bike ≠ Car ≠ Ped.
I've got five, all fully functional -- but could easily pare that down to three.
Hardtail Schwinn MTB from college: haven't ridden it much in years.
Bad Boy Disc: bought it while getting the MTB repaired, and enjoyed it a lot until I got...
CAAD8: fun, fun bike. It's a keeper. Gets the most mileage, but I don't like collecting muck while riding it in the rain. So I got...
Schwinn DBX: cyclocross-style bike, with discs & full fenders. Not as fast as the CAAD8, but it rides fine, and is much better suited to rain & puddles. I'll keep this one around, too.
C'dale Rush: my first nice MTB. I even put the Bad Boy's 700x28 wheels on it today. Really an excellent bike. It has almost made both my MTB and Bad Boy redundant.
I should sell the old MTB and Bad Boy, and keep the other three. I'll be happy for quite a while.

I think I want a road bike now. Something fast. I top out at 20mph on my touring bike... I run out of gears at the top end! I kind of wonder what something with larger wheels (tourer is on 26"s, which work really well for long days on dodgy roads) and a higher gear ratio might let me do Is 34 too old to try racing?

You can never have too many bikes.
Me:

2 mountain bikes
wife:
1 road bike
1 mountain bike.
Bought my last road bike 3 months ago. Starting to feel the itch again.
