How did they know?

I gave my bike a clean this afternoon. I just saw tomorrow's weather forecast, it now says storms. So who told these people that I had cleaned my bike?

Seeding the clouds for rain again Chris? Haven't you learned yet, if you want it to rain..... clean your bike. The more detailed cleaning it receives is directly proportional to how hard it will storm.

Maybe the rain will help the fires that are near Sydney?

This is not a new problem. Consider Alan Sherman, c. 1962 song:
"Oh the moon is shining bright above the car wash,
So I'm having my Volkswagen washed again.
But the way things go with me, the way my luck runs,
As soon as they're finished, it will rain!"

It's actually not raining yet, although a storm is expected to hit around the time I'll be riding home from work. Sydney is apparently expected to miss out on this lot (it is 1,000km away). Personally I'd like to see them burn those who were stupid enough to light the things. Why do idiots find it "really kewl, man" to light fires? Are they too stupid to understand the concept of a "total fire ban"?

How bout billing the scum bags for the expenses invovled in fighting the fires?

Its abit like drink driving or killing cyclists, IMO......it aint hard NOT to do it and laws are not going to stop the few people who do it.

Public flogging would be cool tho

cheers!

The idiots have to be caught first. Many fires in the states are caused by idiot smokers. Throwing their live butts out the windows of their primate mobiles. Dumb! I can only hope that some of them burned their own houses down in some of those fires. Of course they'd probably be the first to ask "Oh, why me?!"

Chris. I had not realized that California is unique with our pyro-nuts, which we read about during our fire season. I read that much of Sydney's fires resulted from a lack of controlled burns in adjacent national parks. We share with you the ease with which Eucalyptus goes up in smoke.

They tried that trick (controlled burns) in the Gold Coast hinterland earlier, but the trouble was, the fires still raged through there anyway (back in October). Luckily we got a deluge of rain when I went on my tour, and that cleaned it up.

Personally, I'd like to see something done to the idiots who light the fires. I know they are hard to catch, but if they made an example of the ones they did catch (and could prove the guilt of, of course), by maybe making them liable for the costs of the damage they've done. We'll see how many others decide to do it.
