I can't believe I mispelled that! I work in psych, and know the condition. Not that I ever experienced it. I have an evening job, and always get out for some light(even half light on a cloudy day seems to be worth ten of Prozac). I'm sure that I'd be depressed if I left for work when it was dark, and came home when it was dark.

For you people that don't have my schedual, get out at sometime during the day, to walk or bike during lunch, or even sit and have a picnic. I bet it would improve the mood of most coop up folk.

I don't know about drinking, as a way of self-medicating. Alcohol is a depressant. One or two drinks with which to relax, is ok for most people. More, to make yourself feel better when depressed is likely to lead to dependence.

We might have three days of rain.

For So Cal that is awful. At least until you want to take a bath or water the tomato plants. I find the gloom gloomy.
So here I am on the Net thinking of riding, but seeing the drizzle- I stay stuck in the house 1- on the Net, 2-over eating,3-wasting time, 4-looking out the front windows, waiting to go out and play, 5- seeing what a waste land TV is.
SO how many days before you become manically depressed up there in the great northwest.? Three days of likely rain here. I will be cheated out of my Monday PM work commute.
Just too much planning and extra stuff to carry, plus I do not like to dirty my chain.
I could get on the trainer. Wife complains how it smells up the house, when she is home. And she does not want to hear the noise. Plus, since the trainer is really a last resort here in SoCal , and I will be biking Wednesday, why do it.

Maelstrom - I just saw Warren Miller's show that was filmed in Whistler, I can't imagine living there and EVER feeling bad! Snowboard and ski all winter, mtn bike all summer, what else could a person ask for?

Don't forget. You look at it like a all encompassing lifestyle. The payment for that lifestyle is 20% drop in pay, 50% increase in cost of living. Is it worth it, yes, but sometimes it can get overwhelming :)

Which movie was that, the comical relief one. Where he brings a bunch of riders to the steepest terrain around and watch them wipe out trying to get into the movie?

But yes, Whistler is awesome. Best mtbiking in the world for dh/freeriders and some of the best for xc. In the winter it is one of the top mountains in north america (if not the best but itis debatable). I never loose appreciation for where I live. And I have yet to really begin enjoying the winter lifestyle.

I guess I got lucky yesterday and today. I was out of the house by 8:00 am and rode until 10:00. Ran into a slight drizzle near the end of today's ride, but not too bad. I'm not depressed at all. :)

I agree. I use to be a heavy drinker. Now, I barely drink. In the past 4 years, I've only been drunk once. Every now and then, I do just as you said. I have a couple beers and I feel much better.

Here in SoCal. Thought it never rained more than 2 days in a row. This will make the third. Not been on the bike in three days.. Temps' in the 50's and rain. No motivation to go out.
Look out the window and need to. And I will be screwed of my nightly PM work commute, as I would have. Enough to get me on the trainer before I go into work tonight. Might be motivational to open up the picture window and watch the rain fall, while on the trainer.?
