Specialized Sirrus vs. Trek 7.3fx vs. Gary Fisher Wingra

I've pretty much narrowed it down to these 3 & am leaning towards Specialized.... I believe they are all around the $500 range.

which is the best overall & why?

tdister 09-04-08 09:11 AM

Whichever feels better to you. Have you ridden any/all of them?

MTBnOH 09-11-08 04:21 AM

I liked the Sirrus & Gary Fisher the best...test rode them this week..

the 09 sirrus is $20 bucks less than the Gary Fisher but it has grip shifts, which were not so great. The Wingra probably felt best overall.

Opinions on the Wingra? good? bad?

tdister 09-11-08 06:58 AM

I've ridden an '07 Wingra, it seemed like a fine bike. I am not a big fan of grip shifters either.

just picked up my trek 7.3fx 2 weeks ago. love it! been riding it everyday without any problems.

MTBnOH 09-11-08 08:48 AM

I actually meant to put 7.2fx b/c the 7.3fx is in a whole different price range..well $120 more than the wingra & $150 more than the 7.2fx.

the guy at the LBS told me the wingra was a better bike than 7.3fx and cheaper, so to go w/ that...basically saying the components were better on it.

phillypino215 09-11-08 08:51 AM

i actually just bought both a 7.3 and 7.2...

got the 2009 7.3 for 560 and a 2008 7.2 for 440. both not bad bikes at all.

Although the people around here who have the Wingra don't post much about it, the general impression is that they are pleased with the bike. FWIW, I test rode one back in April or so, and would have bought it if I had cash at the time. I don't need another bike, but if one comes around for a deal, I'll probably buy it.

You might be comparing the '09 Trek prices to the wingra's '08 price. For '08, the 7.3 should only be $50 or so more. The Wingra does not have better components than the 7.3 from what I can see. Some are the same/essentially the same, some are worse. For sure the rear derailleur is a couple steps up and I liked the 7.3's shifters better.

If you can budget it and haven't ridden it, give the 7.3 a chance. It is noticeably better than the 7.2 (was to me anyway) and it is getting to be the time of year for discounts.

Or just get the Wingra and be happy.

MTBnOH 09-12-08 11:32 AM

wingra is $520
7.3fx is $640

tdister 09-12-08 01:26 PM

Again, I don't beleive GF has released '09 prices. Trek has and that is what you are quoting on their end.

'08 wingra $520. '09 Wingra $TBD.

'08 7.3 FX $570. -'09 7.3 FX $640.

Prices are generally going up in '09, by a noticeable amount for the same model/equipment.

Are you getting your prices from a bike shop or from the manufacturers websites? If from bike shops, maybe look around for anoher Trek dealer to see if they have any '08's left...or forget it.

gary fisher pricing has been released & the 09 bikes are on teh website as well..... it's $520

tdister 09-12-08 04:03 PM

Sorry, my mistake...I would still look around for '08's

the only local bikeshop near me that sells gary fishers said the wingras (08s) sold out in april.

tdister 09-12-08 10:40 PM

I would guess they don't make/sell very many. I've only ever seen one in Austin and the one I rode in Dallas. Good luck.

I just noticed they changed up the Trek's FX line for '09. Wonder how different they ride?

I also own an '07 7.3 FX and I really like it. I chose it over the 7.2 because I didn't like the comfort seat and seat post on the 7.2 and the 7.3 also had better components.

I just looked at the '09 FX line on the web and it looks like Trek has lightened up the frame. They likely made a good bike even better. If you haven't already bought a bike it might be worth your time to see if you can find an '08 7.3 to test drive and save some $$$.
