I should be celebrating my 3rd year on the bike today (9/13)...

... instead, I'm "celebrating" my 3rd week off the bike due to illness.

Is it a bike-related illness?

unfortunately no, it's the mutant bronchitis from hell, doubt that's bike related.

Sad to say… I can definitely relate. In early August my allergies gave me a bit of an upper repertory infection, which in turn kicked in my Bronchitis (I have a bad case about every 5-7 years)… I sound like a five pack a day smoker(I don‘t smoke)… If I get on my bike, or do some other strenuous work, my lungs clear out for a while, but I pay dearly for it once I cool down… not fun.

The best thing medical science has came up with so far for me, is Advair… But, it’s really expensive, and can have some wicked side effects, but it does the job. I personally only stay on it long enough to knock my Bronchitis back into remission… I may have to go back on it this time around… I’m being stubborn, but the Bronchitis is being just as stubborn, and the wife is getting impatient, so back to the doctor I may go.

Years ago, I had chronic bronchitis that turned into chronic asthma (which I still have) because my medical care at the time (grad school health care) wasn't very good. If I had it to do over, I would have treated that bronchitis as aggressively as possible so that it wouldn't become a life-long thing. Good luck and get well!
