I'm a sly one
Since this could be posted in a few different sub-forums, I'm posting here...
My step-daughter just turned 16 on Sept. 14. She has decided not to push the car issue due to the household finances. She has also stated that she would rather have a bike for now than a car My wife doesn't understand why a teen is not obsessed with a car.
Anyway, I took her to the LBS where I got my bike from. She's short and doesn't like drop bars, so finding something that appealed to her and fit her was a challenge. She picked a Giant Sedona. Did not buy b/c we didn't have the time for the test ride or fitting. As we were leaving I checked out the rental bike rack out front. I spotted a Kona Smoke that I had her climb on while it was still in the rack. It fit.
I asked about if they would sell it, and they said yes. Best thing is that I ride Smoke, so that means I only have to stock 1 size of tubes at the house!
Now I can justify the expense of a new rear rack (that I don't like) because I will put it on her bike and probably my panniers (same reason).

Another benefit from the "dad" perspective-
It is hard to drive to the local "lovers lane" to make out in the back seat of a bicycle.
