hi guys
i would say im new to cycling, but i been taking out my bike for years so im going to say im new to buying a bike seeing as i have been using a cheap one i have had for about 5 years now. i been to several shops but im looking for different opinions on bikes. im looking for a decent bike i can use off road an on road for a long time with minimal maintenance. I dont have a lot of money to spend within about £300 or $600

if anything i said makes me look like an idiot please let me know because i dont really have the foggiest about a decent bike.

An entry level MTB with dual purpose tires would work, but not excel at either.

For the past 5 years, where have you been riding? Roads? Trails? You need to determine which bike type will work for you. Once you determine that, there are many good options in your price range.

well i ride it to work on the roads but prefer riding it in the country on tracks and the like.
im only 16 and looking for a decent workhorse bike which i can ride quite hard.

any model names an numbers would be good

Ask at bike shops in your area if they have anything similar. This could give plenty of fun, on and off the roads, but also give practical transportation.

thank you is there anything similar that has a front suspension ?
how good would that be for down
hill cycling with quite a lot of bumps ?
any one have one of these as well ??

I second the cyclocross option pretty much does it all, unless you are planning on doing hardcore off road. Though if you bring you budget up to 1,000 us you will get a lot more options of bikes.
