Build your own?
I'm trying to figure out if buying a pre-built bike is cheaper than putting one together? I know with computers you can get the right website you can assemble a really great pc for 1/3 the price. Is this so with bikes as well? Can anyone give me some ideas of websites to check out for parts. I just got a bike a week ago and have no real plans of changing for awhile, just want to get an idea of what is out there.

Usually the best deals on low and mid-priced bikes is to go with a pre-built bike. On a high end rig, though, shopping around might allow you to save a few bucks. More importantly in my mind, you can build your bike with the exact specs you want.

building a bike is just as much about the journey as the end result. i built my last bike and would do it again. there is always something, from wheelset to BB to the mixing of parts on the manufacturers end that i'd want to change.
and if you are patient and won't waver on the frameset you can build a bike for a similar price if not cheaper (one or two year old frameset + closeouts on groups)
