2006 Jamis Coda versus 08 Trek 7.3 FX for noob
Hi There,
I haven't cycled for many years and things sure have changed. I'm looking to purchase a bike for exercise, riding some paved bike trails (for a couple of hours) and cycling with my kids. I have an opportunity to purchase either a 06 Jamis Coda or a Trek 7.3 FX (I've tried the Trek at my lbs and it seemed ok, although the 7.5 fx felt a little better (gearing). I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on the Jamison versus the Trek. I can get the Jamis for about $50 less. I don't know much about the components that come with each bike, although I think the Jamis is CroMo versus Aluminum for the Trek. Thanks for any feedback!

The Jamis might ride smoother since both the frame and the fork are steel, compared to the Trek's aluminum frame and aluminum fork. But it will weigh more.
And the 7.5 FX is pretty nice. I bought an '09 recently and I have really enjoyed it. The saddle was awful, though. I don't know what Bontrager was thinking when they designed that "Nebula" saddle, but after a few weeks I gave up the hope of it ever feeling comfortable and bought a WTB Rocket V Race (which is great!).
