Strange Cycling Experiences - #38

So I'm out for a 73 mile ride this afternoon, and my route takes me through Boulder. I'm heading North out of town on Broadway hugging the edge of the street when it turns into a right-turn lane. Normally I take the lane in this situation and then hug the left-hand edge to avoid getting right-hooked, but I wasn't quick enough and am overtaken by an SUV wanting to make a right-turn. So I get on the brakes and start to swing in behind it.

Suddenly, the air is filled with a strange, piercing sound that scares the bejeezus out of me and startles the SUV driver so they abruptly hit the brakes, causing me to hit the brakes to keep from rear-ending it. A split-second later another cyclist overtakes both of us, swinging around and passing us on the left.

The sound was the cyclist alerting us of his presence...by yodeling...at a volume I never thought humanly possible.

So if anyone knows a tall dude in Boulder that rides in blue/white jersey & shorts, give him my compliments on his yodeling:D skill and lung-power.

That is quite possibly the most amazing thing I have heard today... I might have to try that sometime :p I have a feeling that he used the alpine style as opposed to the western. Western doesn't project.

LOL! That musta been something. I've heard people perfectly mimic ambulance sirens but never yodel.

So if he ever gets pulled over and doesn't have a bell, can he yodel for the officer to prove he REALLY doesn't need one?

Almost spit iced tea on my keyboard. Thanks! ;)

I have yelled at cars that were about to pull out in front of me, so far it has worked every time. Don't think I can yodel as loud as I can yell though.

lol

So, what were the other 37 experiences?

If I were to try yodeling I think people would start aiming their vehicles at me.
Good story...thanks.

Knew an unordained Swiss preacher once. He used to preach to his congregation from the other side of the valley, using that technique.

He was the first of the yodel laity
