    Yakima rack: Q-tower vs 1A

Not sure which forum to ask this in, but here goes:

I want a roof-top rack for my 2006 Scion XA. Thule claims none of theirs fit.

Yakima has a specific Q-Tower set up for my car, but I guess that the IA (raingutter grabbing) also works. Is there any big advantage to the much more expensive Q-Tower? Why not just grab the raingutter and do it that way?

Any other suggestions for a reasonable rack for this thing? I know nothing about racks so any help is appreciated.

I've always run Yakima racks, and currently have a 4 bike rack setup on a 2007 Focus 2 door. My experience with Yakima is that they have very well engineered solutions, and what they say fits does fit. If they don't list your "plan B" then there may well be a reason you're not aware of.

Yeah, they're pricey, but they last forever. One of my carriers is 7 years old and still looks new. Current setup uses q-towers and a stretch kit.

Ther customer service I've found is first rate, why not just give them a call?

And, as far as saving $ is concerned, watch Craigslist. Once you know the parts you need much of it can be picked up for pennies on the dollar versus new.

Thanks for the advice. I will call them. Their website steers me to the Q-Tower solution. But all the retail places that sell Yakima claim that the IA will fit anything with raingutters. I would feel more confident if the Yakima site made that clear as well. Nothing a phone call can't solve though. I am still interested in hearing if anyone has any experience with the IA route though.
