Bike polo and frame

Don;t know if this is the right place for the thread, bu I have stumbled across a carbon fiber frame single speed for $150. Its a Specialized "Epic" frame. My question is that I will use this frame to play bike polo, and was wondering if the carbon fiber will be able to sustain the impacts of the polo game. Would a steel frame be better?

I'd do steel, but what the hey, for just $150, take it for polo and see what happens. Another BF'er talked about how he took a carbon frame from his shop that was replaced under warranty/crash discount/whatever and beat the crap out of it by the dumpster. He said that it took an amazing amount of abuse before coming apart.

If you end up playing bike polo with it, keep us posted on how well it survives.

Get it for $150...that's a good deal, so long as it's in good condition.

My opinion,

All the carbon frame needs is one good smash with a polo mallet, and it will be splinters.

I know folks who have carbon forks or other bits on their polo bikes. All depends on how skilled you are and how rough you play. Also note,if you beat on that bike,I wouldn't ride it on the street. It may get hidden damage, and if the frame fails on the court, you just get banged up. But having it fail on the street in traffic would be very bad.

$150 for a CF frame sounds too good to be true to me...

I'd be skeptical that there is already some damage to the frame.

Even if there isn't I doubt the frame would survive more than maybe one or two polo games. For polo you want an older department store bike with heavy steel tubing so it can take the abuse. Weight or in this case weight savings are a non-issue in polo where you never have a chance to get going very fast anyway. Get an old beater bike and destroy it; don't waste $150 on what will likely survive less than one entire polo game.
