what's wrong with this picture? (a full Wilier for $280?)
Before I stumbled into bed on New Years Eve, I (maybe foolishly) dropped in what I thought was a low stink bid on a French ebay bike auction I'd been watching. A year 2000 Wilier with Columbus Brain tubing and Shimano 105. Looks to be well-cared for condition.
My next morning hangover was aggravated by the discovery that I'd actually won the damn thing. For 200euros (about ... what? $280 US)
Now while the set up -- tubing and components -- is admittedly somewhat middle of the road (some might say less than that) that still seems like a silly cheap price. Frames alone sell for more than that.
Even more baffling, I was the only bidder.
and of course I have to pick it up in France the next time I'm there (which should be this Spring).
Am I missing something? This seems kind of weird to me. Are there counterfeit Wiliers out there (I've read of counterfeit Colnagos for instance.) Or is this just the going rate for a reasonable road bike that happens to be sitting in the middle of nowhere in rural France.

They are counterfeit Wiliers out.
You don't have to go to France to find them.
They are being made in the same factory and finding their way out the back door.
No way of knowing if they are seconds, botched, or what.

Sometimes too, you just score a killer deal, where the seller forgets to put a reserve, figures people will bid it up, etc. Might just be the case..
