Post-Crash first ride .9 weeks on.

I had my first ride on a bike since breaking my hip on the 12th Feb. this year . yesterday I rode 10ks & today 13 :) Mostly on the grass, doing laps of the local college playing fields , mainly for a softer fall if come off !.& it seems to make more resistance at the lower speeds I'm comfortable with at the moment. The bike I'm using is the same one that dumped me ,my wet weather bike with the toe-clips & straps, the next step will be to ride my road bike cliped into the SPD pedals
I'm still doing physio, hydro-therapy & gym work most days to try & restore the muscle they had to cut through to pin, plate & screw the ball of the femur back & I should be able to return to work some time in the middle of May, hopefully I'll be able to cycle there & back by then !

Glad to see you're on the way back. Just remember not to try to rush things at this stage.

Riding in time for winter...what a bummer aye? Let's hope this fine weather holds up yeah!

Luckily you've got the winter to get through this. I'm glad to see you back on your feet- like Chris said, don't rush yourself, let the body heal so you come back stronger, and get well soon!

Take care,

Koffee

A couple of years ago I had 5 months off. My main problem was not getting back on the bike and getting fit, It was that final push to get the Final bit of fitness back. It was all mental, but I had a reason not to push uphill, I had a reason to take a shorter ride, and I had a reason to always be back with the new rider. What I did was set myself a target ride, a hard one that I had not done for a few years. I had 6 months from setting the target to the ride, and let everyone know that I was doing it. I no longer had an excuse. I had to get fit, but it was not until I set that target that I finally got the brain kickstarted into action to do the extra training to get my fitness level up to what it should have been.

34 ks to-day on the tarmac on the old 27" wheeler with fenders ,went passed the spot where I crashed & finnished the journey I started that afternoon.I took it easy & only used the 42 chainring with the 4 lowest gears ,my time was 1hr 49min for 34ks !!! but I felt quite pleased with the ride ,since I started to ride again I seem to be losing my limp quickly :D
