Gremlins in my tyre
I have a set of tyres that I just should get rid of. I've learned one thing from them, that if you get a tyre that has had a foriegn object go through it get rid of the tyre cause it will haunt you the rest of the time you ride that tyre. The tyre I am talking about had a shard of glass go through it and punctured my tube. No problem I thought, I removed the glass and fixed the flat and continued to ride on the tyre, well I got another flat a couple days later, but nothing had gone through the tyre. Thought it was a fluke, until the third flat on that wheel. When I compared it to the other tubes it was in the same spot. I took the tyre off and inspected the inside, thinking I hadn't gotten the glass out or there was something else in the tyre, but all I could find was a small hole. I had thought this hole insignificant to the point of continuing to ride this tyre, even though I develop flats with it. I've figured out that the hole and the motion of the wheel going round, compressing and uncompressing "chews" a hole in the tube, and I get a flat, and the hole is in the same spot on everyone of the tubes. I love the rubber on the tyre, and other than changing a flat every 100 or so miles it's a good tyre. I'm just going to have to get new rubber, and I was hoping that this would have lasted longer.

Glue a patch on the inside of the tire. You may also try a Parks tire boot. This is some stiff plastic with glue on the back of it. I would hate to pitch a good tire because of this. I had this same experence and found it was a tiny wire from semi-truck throw offs inbeeded into the tire. This wire was the size of a hair and only about 2 mm long. I almost never found this cause of a puncture. Now I keep a metal probe to rake around in suspected cracks etc. The metal against metal, or glass will let you know if something is in the tire. Just my 2Cents.

What kind of tire is it? My specialized hemisphere's with the flakjacket rubber on it have cuts all over it from commuting, I've gotten 1 flat so far from running over a glass bottle. If it's in the same area, as someone suggests, try sticking a tube patch on the tire itself to create a boot. Also fill in the crack with glue to keep stuff from getting wedged in it.

After posting I thought: "What a numnutz, I could patch the inside of the tyre/tire. Boy, are they going to think I'm daft." I haven't gotten around to it, been busy fixing up an old roadie for a friend. I'll have two less bikes today! Three less by the weekend.
I spell tire tyre because I read a confusing post where someone was tiring of a tire. I know its a tired expression, and I suppose it is just my baby steps to a sort of Esperanto. By the by, anyone know the word for tyre/tire in Esperanto?

A friend of mine speaks esperanto quite fluently but I haven't talked to her since she went to grad school a few months ago.
I would think the word is tiro or tiron, with the -o being the subject or -on being the object. A quick search yielded radringo.

Get a jewelers screwdriver and dig around wherever you see cuts in the tread. You'll probably dig out more than one piece of embedded glass.
