I know this thread is a little bit old but I found a new one. When you go riding with your friends on a new trail that you've never rode, but they have and they just continue to go, not telling where to turn at the forks etc... Then they don't even come back or anything when they realize that you aren't there, they just stop and assume that you know where you are going.

Cars that pace me instead of passing me, when they have an entire second lane to do so, and i'm as far right as i can go....it's unnerving as all hell...especially when the car is whisper quiet...it's like being followed by the ghost of scrapyards past.

Thieves....I really wish it was legal to tie them up to a post and burn them at the stake. They have no right to even live around civlized people as far as I'm concerned.

Impatience...I'll admit I'm impatient as well...it's the acting on it that bugs me...I'll just pace around and look like I'm on speed or something...but it's the people that run stop signs, change 4 lanes at a time, and in general slow down everyone else just because they are so busy, and like their time is worth more than the rest of the world...I am extremely vocal to these types of people...impatience is not a reason to be an ass.

And parents that bring their cry-happy baby into a movie theater....look, I don't care if you think your kid is going to be the next Luciano Pavarotti...I don't care...in all truth at that moment in the theater, I'm considering trying to make a flaming popcorn slignshot out of a rubberband, a zippo, and buttered popcorn...and aiming it right at the parent's head...civilization has found a unique job niche called "baby-sitter" for a good reason here...either that or learn about the recent technological advances we have, called VHS, DVD, and Pay-per-view....those are viewing venues where your little breathing bullhorn can make as much noise as he can and we won't mind....becasue we can't hear him......

Just the other day we were on a ride and a car was behind us. THe driver was quite elderly and looked like uncle junior. He was obviously afraid to pass us. So he was slowing down the traffic and the drivers behind him were honking at US, like it was our fault! ANd this is on a designated shared road. It's not only old people, but whenever drivers are afraid to pass us, even if they have tons of room,we get honked at like it's our fault that they're sh***y drivers!

One of my pet peeves is people complaining that modern cars suck because you can't crawl into the engine bay and do repairs and the second all that technical mumbo-jumbo gets messed up your car is screwed, or the ECU could crash with a BSOD sending your car into complete failure.

First of all, as many people have actually found out, modern cars, specifically Japanese cars, last a WHOLE LOT LONGER than before. Way back then, cars were ready to blow up at 100,000 miles. Nowadays, 200,000 miles is the time for a trade-in...

Second, ECUs do NOT use operating systems that your Desktop or Laptop PC (or PPC) uses. It is not possible to get a BSOD and extremely unlikely to have a kernel crash, because the ECU software is encoded in ROM or FlashROM, and does not have:

1) A vulnerable storage medium like a disk drive

2) Any piece of code developed from a supercompany with a name that starts with an M

3) Underdeveloped and overtheorized software. It was tested extensively before use to make sure it is absolutely perfect.

4) Complex software. All it has to do is take an input data and compute it to an output data for a component to use. No user interface, no bells or whistles, no BS!

Modern cars have something called "Self-Diagnostics" which is a difficult one to master. The ECU checks all its peripherals and the engine components automatically to make sure they work correctly. If something is not working right, the "Check Engine" light comes on and the error is written to memory. Attach a diagnostic PC, and it GIVES you the errors in plain English, like "Oxygen Sensor Failure" etc...

My pet peeve is that I am cursed when it comes to inner-tubes. I spent an embarrasing amount of time yesterday and today patching and repatching two tubes and trying to salvage them. I'm not ********, I can fix a tube and reuse it. It's just that, every once and awhile, I go through these period of massive tube failures.

Also, this isn't just on one bike, its on ALL my bikes. I borrow tubes from buddies, those tubes die. It isn't all the time; it goes in cycles. Sometimes it feels like everything I try to do just goes to sh*t.

It's a running joke among my riding buddies about how many flats I'll get. More often than not it will be at least one.

So yeah, my pet peeve is Godda*n cheap a*s innertubes.

There are many situations where I actually prefer people to do that. In fact, I often claim the entire lane to make sure they do. I don't know if you've ever had someone try to blast by you on a narrow winding mountain descent, but it's far more unnerving than being tailgated.

...and yet those American cars are jalopies by 150,000 miles...

Here's another pet peeve...

...some people are very opinionated. They like one set of cars, say they're the best in the world, and say everything else sucks. I go by facts, and 8,000 surveys with the same results can't be very wrong...

...cars have come a long way since the 80's. American cars used to be horrible in reliability. Nowadays, American cars are, on the average, a little better than the European cars. The Japanese cars are still tops in reliability, but Korean and American cars are catching up fast...

...the one thing that sets car companies behind is quality vs. quantity. If you can't put out 50,000 cars in time, you either run under the quota or build faster and make 50,000 POS cars. Japanese cars are built with quality on the average, and they may be worth the extra $5 (ooh scary $5!) you put into them. Personally everyone I know of that has had a Japanese car has made it to 200,000+ miles almost problem-free, and either traded it in or passed it on to someone else. Expect some high-stress things to wear, like tires, brakes, oils, fluids, seats, etc. those are normal.

Dude, I'm sorry. I have to respectfully disagree. My 1997 Acura Integra has 275, xxx kms on it and runs almost like it did when I bought it 6 years ago with 17, xxx kms on it. Its a very reliable car that has seldom let me down(twice in the time I've owned it, once was a cracked distributor cap, the other time the motor was flooded). Jap cars last forever if you change the oil regularly and treat them with respect. I expect to be driving this car for at least another five to ten years, all things being equal.

Bad grammer on forums. I hate reading stuff that doesn't have periods at the end of sentances or no capital letters or no question marks at the end of questions.

On the job, when I am training somebody and this guy or gal will say I know, I know, here's what I do, I just tell them, then go ahead and show me what you got, and if they are very stubborn, then I jst finished the training and let him/her do the job, if they asked, then I will say i thought you know

One of my pet peeves about newsgroups is that someone will ask a question like "I need a new 23C tire. What do you guys recommend?" And then about 12 people will tell him why he shouldn't be riding 23C tires but should be riding 19s, 25s, or 32s. Before it's over, the thread will degenerate into a discussion on tubulars vs. clinchers or something and the poor guy will still be wondering what 23C tire he should buy.
