Ha ha ha. See you later, kiddie.

So I'm riding along minding my own business at about 16 MPH when I notice out of the corner of my eye a kid on one of those gas-powered scooter thingies. I see him pull behind me and give it the gas. I go up another gear and jump up to about 21 MPH. I keep watching him in my mirror and see that I'm pulling away. After about 1/4 mile he gives up and turns around. What a great feeling!

I've had a couple of run-ins with other teenagers on moterized scooters before, but it was while I was riding my hybrid bike. Today I was on my road bike. It felt really great to have more speed when I needed it.

Has anyone else had any incidents with these types of people?

The new thing around here: miniature motorcycles. For some reason, they seem ALWAYS to be driven by BIG men in Yankees gear... If only I could get them to line up, it's be just like a circus act!

yea they have pocket harleys, yamahas, italian crotch rockets. the harly minis use four strokes I think. but the mini repli-racers use 50cc twostrokes with an optional 75cc big bore kit for dragracing VW mini-busses and such. I think they qualify as mopeds or scooters in a lot of states(for licencing)

I've never seen a license plate on one of them. (The scooters I mean.)

I had an idiot on one of those scooters pass me on the right during a morning commute last week. I gave him a thorough tongue-lashing for it. Pity he didn't hear any of it due to the buzz-saw racket of his motor.

i love those "pocket bikes"! they're so stupid!

i remember one time on a group ride w/ the fast guys on the way home on west river drive(which gets closed to cars on the weekend for pedestrians) some guy on a minibike(faster and louder than a pocket bike) snuck onto the road. we were riding a paceline at around 22-24 mph. well a guy in the line jumps off and started drafting the dude on the mini bike. must have been going near 30 b/c we lost sight of em pretty quick. it was a funny sight.

So some punk gangbanger on a gas powered scooter keeps racing with me and I beat him to every stoplight. He stares at my fixed gear bike and asks "why your bike so fast, what bike is that?"

I have seen those around... If only the scooter is taller, it would make a good air/wind barrier..

Once I drafted someone on a 250cc yamaha.. he was just cruising around (24~26mph).. he was very polite though.. we even had a short chat (I rode along side to thank him for the draft), when he asked me where I was heading...

Here, if it's got a seat and a motor, it's a moped (even if it can't be pedaled; go figure), and has to be licensed as such. At a certain horsepower or speed (don't have the exact numbers) it's a motorcycle, which requires a different registration and, of course, a cycle endorsement on the operator's license. Kick/stand scooters with motors are considered "play vehicles" and aren't allowed on public streets or sidewalks. This law is, of course, routinely violated, and at best millennially enforced.

here a moped or motorized bicycle has (legally) larger than 20 inch tires and a level ground top speed of 30mph and can't go on limited access freeways I don't know how the small tire motorscooters are classified other than no freeways. and motorcyles need an endorsment 3 wheeled vehicles(trikes/sidecars) need another endorsment. In my town stand up scooters ride the side streets in packs and some pump them up with expandtion chambers and so forth, sound like a mad hornet nest when they go up my street.(its all good)

I see a few in our neighborhood & on my commute but they aren't real fast, most are really small & only hit about 15-20 mph, depends on how big the rider is. There's a couple sisters in our neighborhood that ride double & their speed really drops off.

I'm not as fast as you are, but I smoked past an old lady in a wheelchair the other day - felt great!

"I was robbed by a little old lady on a motorized cart, I didn't even see it coming..."

I got a strange feeling that on some scooter forum, one of those kids with a 60mph scooter's saying, "hahahaha see you later roadie"
