Local news station fitness idea
I am really not sure why this bothers me so much.
Channel 13 AM news here in Indy has a fitness guy that does short stories about fitness etc. He has little stories about the Monon trail, running shoes, health clubs and on and on.
Today the bit was about taking up bicycles for fitness this spring, said the anchors, stay tuned to find out which bikes to buy. I expected a WalMart special or maybe a trip to the local bike shop.
The roadbike they featured was a custom handmade bike by a local bike frame fabricator. It had zipp wheels and was a very nice bike. I bet it was at least an $8000 bike. The next bike they went to was a FG that was probably 3k. I cant see the type person who would watch the news this AM and run out a buy a bicycle that costs that much. Seems to me like even rich people who were looking for a bicycle would not be well suited for a FG. Anybody that can and would buy the featured bikes already know about the bikes and those who dont cant afford them. I dunno, it just did not seem to be that postive for bicycling to me.
Maybe I need more coffee.

That is really silly. Only someone with absolutely no knowledge or interest whatsoever in cycling would focus on two such bikes as a gateway to cycling. You would think at least the people in the store would have recommended showing more appropriate examples.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

They probably did, but the media didn't find them to be sexy enough.

so is the custom bike shop. Look like nice bicycles. Wish I could afford one, certainly not entry level.
