Mounting Pump on Underside of Downtube

Any problems with mounting my Topeak Roadmorph on the underside (that is, front) of the downtube? I'm sure it won't fall off, but will it get dirty enough to cause problems?

This is on a road bike.

I've had one mounted just like that on my commuter for about a year. No problems so far. I have fenders and mud flaps.

I mounted mine alongside the bottle cage on the down tube. Seems to work fine.

Why do you want to mount it underneath?

That's where mine has been for a year, without any issue.

Had mine like that for a long time, too. If the head gets crudded up, you can pull a piece of an old inner tube over it to keep the dirt out. Just slide it up the shaft to use the pump.

Have the same problem on finding a place for mounting the roadmorph. It is one long pump. I mount it on the Front bottle cage using one screw for the mount and a Ziptie.

I don't like putting pumps in the line of any road dirt as it does seem to go right through the pump. And on this bike- The shape of the top tube and position of the brake cable does not allow for a good mounting under the top tube.

The only issue with mounting the pump under the top tube is with trunk or receiver hitch car racks. If the rack holds the bike up by the top tube, you can have interference with the pump or pump bracket. Otherwise it's fine. My touring bike is the only bike I currently have the pump under the top tube.

However, don't worry about road gunk on the Topeak pumps if you mount them elsewhere. I have the Mountainmorph on a three mountain bikes and Roadmorph on another road bike that are all mounted under the water bottle cage. I've had no issues with the pump getting dirty.

I have stayed away from that location due to road grim and grit. Not to mention water spray. I'm planning on rigging a mount on the back of a vertical rack stay.

With 2 bottle cages on my road bike, I have no choice; under the top tube is the only place I can mount a pump. Only problem is my 5 flights of stairs: you can't sling the bike over your shoulder with the pump there; it gets in the way.

Until I rig my mount I put my pump in my rack trunk with my clothes or in my courier bag.

Try it down there and see how goes for you.

Under the top tube isn't the only place you can mount a pump. You can mount them under the bottle cage and still have use of the cage for water. Here are some of my other bikes with the pump mounted under the cage

In the last one you can see how closely it tucks in behind the cage.
