I bought this frame from a very nice, middle aged gentleman off of Craigslist today. He lived in a nice area of town, and had a very innocent demeanor about him. There appears to be no evidence of a removed serial number, so I'm not really worried about the frame being stolen.

That being said.

This bike has no branding what-so-ever, nor does it have any kind of serial number. The only mark on the entire frame is an "M" on the bottom bracket (looks like a "V" in the pictures). I have no way to know if the fork is what came with the frame, but it is painted the same (metallic black). There are front and rear bosses for canti brakes, which to me (I'm new to this) suggests cyclocross, but there isn't really a whole lot of clearance for big tires.

The main thing on this frame that may help to identify it is the rear brake cable stop, which extends from one side of the seatstays only. I've not seen this before (but for all I know it's common).

I'm just wondering if anyone could clue me into what this frame may be.

I'll happily provide any information that I can. I do own digital calipers and will take measurements if needed.

The frame is 58cm to the top of the seatpost, and 56cm to the center of the TT.
The bottom bracket is english.

small framebuilder perhaps? I know a lot of really small builders barely brand their work, and you probably aren't required to put a serial number on work like that (not sure at all about that)

edit: looks like a nice frame though!

Well after looking around some more, I'll no longer say it's a Cyclocross frame.

It's a hybrid frame of some sort, perhaps a 'cross' frame, although it doesn't have the space or braze ons for fenders. It does have the Canti-bosses and front braze ons for a rack.

At this point I'd be happy if someone had seen the single arm rear cable stop before.

I'm liking the way it rides so far, I got a cheap set of tektro mini-v brakes for the front and a cheap lever that I had to modify to make it fit the bars, but that's what happens when you're poor. I now know how to install and mount a v-brake, which was fun. I got all of my lights on it, as well as my computer, so this things ready for it's first commute.

I'm pretty excited. Here's a better pic of the complete bike, although it could be a little brighter and better focused. (No computer in this pic though, otherwise, that's how it sits.)

It's a nice looking bike, I hope it treats you well. I have a feeling the frame is a custom build, maybe not the forks though.

I think it's either a custom build or a favorite old road bike that he took to a framebuilder to have "crossified." As in, having canti brake bosses and that cable stop welded on. Then buy an inexpensive steel cross fork and have the lot powdercoated.
