What's the best hybrid or comfort bike under $400? I've been look at the trek 7000, trek 7200 and giant sedona st.

For that price range, you're gonna get some cheap components. What kind of riding do you plan on doing? have you considered a road, touring or 'cross bike? Also, check craigslist for some deals.

It always seems that you get higher quality components on Giant, for the same money.

The $400 ? Trek 7000 and Giant have rigid fork and suspension seat post,steel frame,7200 made in aluminum, have suspension fork and seat post,7200 is out of your price range.ride both if you can b4 laying out the cash.Trek have 700cc tires and Giant have 26 inches tires.

For the Giant line, you may also want to look at the Cypress line. my first bike when I got back into riding is a 2003 Giant Sedona DX, and it has served me well, but if I were to do it over, I would look at the Cypress. Virtually all of my riding has been on roads and rail trails, so I would have been better served with the 700c wheels and the smoother treads on the tires they put on the Cypress.

If you are a short rider, the 26" wheels may be an advantage for a smaller bike frame, but otherwise, if you are going to be strictly riding on the smooth stuff, I think the Cypress is worth a look.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm willing to go a little higher than $400 if it's worth the difference. I found the trek 7000 for $329, the 7200 for $480, the giant sedona st for $280, and the sedona for $380. Is it worth the money to upgrade for the front suspension in either model? Also, why do you prefer the Cypress over the Sedona in layman terms? I honestly don't know very much about bikes. I'll probably just use the bike for cruising around my city, mostly on asphault with a few hills. I'm actually not even sure if hybrid is the best choice. Would a mountain bike be a better idea? Seems like they're less expensive.

This was my 1st bike I bought in 2007. Though I never rode a hybrid with suspension, this bike with steel fork was comfortable. I rode on streets and bike trails. Less than a year later I sold it to my cousin and got a 'cross bike. Hybrids are good, but I'll never go back.

I have a 2008 Sedona DX and agree with Little Darwin. The Cypress DX or Trek 7200 with 700cc wheels may have been a better fit with the riding I am doing which is roads and rail trails. I have a mountain bike as well, but no longer ride highly technical mountain bike trails. I'd like to get rid of my mountain bike, use the Sedona DX for dirt trails and get a 700cc wheeled hybrid/fitness bike for distance and speed on paved surfaces.

I'll put in a vote for the Cypress, too. It's the bike I bought when I got back into cycling a bit over a year and a half ago, and it's held up very well.

lol thanks for your honesty. But they're better than getting a walmart bike, right? At least my bike shop will give me free tune ups. At walmart I'll be lucky if saddle isn't backward.

700cc is faster and 26 is slower,you need to take this in consideration.Bikes from LBS under $400 are not crap ( usually not ) excuse what operator had commented,get what you like, Giant or Trek, oh lord, this is about to go down guys.

if i were you i would just go to the lbs and talk and see what they can do for you
i got a redline hybrid for 300 it was a previous year's model and it rides just fine.

Between the Cypress st and the Sedona st, what are the differences, and which is the better bike? They both cost the same. I road the sedona st and liked it, is there a reason for me to try and find a shop that has the cypress so i can test it out? Once again, any help is greatly appreciated.
