washing bike shorts
how do you wash your bike shorts? or biking stuff? I throw mine in the wash but let it hang dry. I've recently notice that 2 pairs of bike shorts which are fairly new and good (trans rockies) are starting to wear away. I used to hand wash all my shorts but that was too much work.
Do you do anything different? Do your shorts wear away?

I wash shorts and jersey by hand. But I let it soak in soapy water first, then agitate a little, rinse and air dry. I assume you are not mountain biking and not covered with dirt and mud. So the clothing should not be that dirty. I clean to remove the sweat, body oils, and odor.
When I wring dry, I make sure that I don't apply too much twisting pressure on the padding and the seams. Otherwise, those shorts will get damaged or what you refer to as "wear away". The padding itself, I just squeeze dry to get some of the rinse water out. The rest, I rely on the sun to dry.

I have a hand wash setting on my washer. It's a front loader and very gentle on my clothes, and rhe HW cycle doesn't spin much at all. Then I hang dry.

I put my shorts and jersey inside out in a lingerie bag and wash on the delicate cycle of my top-load washer. Lay flat on a towel to dry. Seems to work great.

Fabric care instructions on the inside of the clothing? Follow instructions.
Our new washer has a 'Sports' setting so of course that's what I use for my mostly-polyester bike stuff. Dry on low. Hang - dry the shorts that say no heat.

Use cold/cool water and Woolite or another "gentle" detergent.
