landmark wheel design
 

While logging onto Bike Forums, I came across an article regarding tubeless wheels, where, in place of spoke holes, there were extended "ears" of metal drilled at right angles to accomodate spokes!. The spokes were directly opposite each other,so in essence two spokes attached to one projection. The hub too was unique, in that there was no right angle bend in the spoke.The spokes were arranged radially, and the tensioning arrangement was located an inch or so from the spoke head. I think that the total number of spokes for both the front and back wheel was 36 ? Many hours of surfing the internet has drawn a blank. Has anyone else come across this most interesting article ?

The design is fading away, and was never more than a niche item anyway. They are various shimano wheels, at least some XT/XTR wheels and WH-R540.

Crank Brothers Cobalt wheels, perhaps?

Thanks for answering my query. The Shimano R540 came very close to the wheel I saw. However, Crank Brothers Cobalt wheels was exactly what I had in mind.

I found both designs most enlightening and did some "finger work" on the net. Rightly, the reviews on Shimano were not so favourable, as suggested by Mr. Corsa. However, as I found this new approach to wheel biuilding so innovative, I wonder if Crank Brothers Cobalt wheels address the drawbacks found in the Shimano.
