Where to keep phone?
I know, I know. I'm a total n00b. I just got a cell phone last week. I'm not sure if keeping it in my jersey pocket is a great idea, what with all the heat and sweat. I thought maybe keeping it in a ziploc bag in my saddle bag.
How tough are these things? I want to have it handy in case of emergency, but is there a best way to bring it along for the ride?

The rain was one of my concerns, but the jostling in the seat bag was another. Maybe I'm being paranoid because I just got it.

I keep mine in my jersey. If it starts to rain, I put my coat over the jersey.

I carry my phone and $20 in a ziplock bag in a jersey pocket...my own little survival pack. Sweat isn't an issue and I hardly even know it's there.

+1 on the $20 idea. I keep a $20 tucked away in my Camelback. I rarely need it, but when I do need it, I'm really glad to have it.
I wear baggies and usually just carry my phone in one of the pockets. Sometimes I throw it in my camelback.

Keep the phone on you, never on the bike. Someone jacks your bike, they have your phone.

Jersey/jacket's breast pocket or special cell phone holder that attaches to the backpack shoulder strap, just above the breast, so that I can hear it.

I use a "Cell Safe DX4" waterproof cell phone case. It fits into a water bottle cage. More information here:

Unfortunately, it looks like it might be out of stock/production at the moment.

I use a Topeak cell phone holster that attaches to the bike just below the Stem. It slides off to double as a belt holster when I am not riding. If I am not on the road bike it goes it goes in a cargo pants pocket. If someone jacks my bike my cell phone is the least of my problems. To get the bike they had to knock me off of it. But in the holster it is easy to reach if for some reason I need to make a call.

I suggest that you put your cell phone in a ziplock bag and put that in your jersey pocket.
If you are worried about it dropping out of your pocket, put the bagged cell phone in your bag, trunk bag, or panier if you have one attached to your bicycle. If you stop and are worried about the cell phone being stolen, take it with you by itself or detach the bag or panier and take it with you.

Geesh...I just pop mine in a jersey pocket, saddle bag, handlebar bag, or whatever is handiest for the bike I am riding. I don't worry about protecting it further from rain unless this thing they call a weather forecast indicates a fair chance of it doing so...and just a small sammich bag does the trick.
