'09 Trek 7.3 FX, '09 Specialized Sirrus Sport, or '09 Cannondale Quick 4?

Just getting into cycling from running due to back injury.

Anyway these are the 3 bikes that are simliar that also fits the budget with some sort of name brand that I have zeroed in on.

Will use for riding the bike paths with the kids and also maybe go further for fitness 30 or so miles as I build up to it.

The only major difference I see is the cannondale has a carbon fork. But I have also read reviews that the cannondales are tough to fit on a bike rack which I would like to buy in the future as well.

    Any comments are much appreciated.

    Thanks.

I've yet to meet anyone who had a Trek 7.3 FX who had complaints. I have/had the 7.5 FX which I utterly customized - not from need, but from being my nature - so I can say they render themselves very well to any upgrades you may wish to do later on. And they have an excellent warranty as well.

    That's my .02

    Happy Trails!

I was having the exact same dilemma as you and chose the sirrus sport '10 model. The sirrus was the lightest of the three bikes, though not that much lighter than the Trek. In the end, the ride, comfort, and weight of the three were very comparable, with the Trek and Sirrus being neck and neck, while the Cannondale was just slightly behind in comfort (didn't like the seat) and weight (slightly heavier than the other two). My final decision was based on color, honestly, as the dark blue of the Sirrus is really nice. However, the 7.3 fx is $500 now, so there is a significant cost savings over the Sirrus. Hope this helped.

3 similar bikes- but I can assure you they will be different---Once you have sat on the saddle- adjusted them to fit and done a test ride.

That is the only way to check a bike out and the only way one of them will scream "Buy Me" If they don't say that to you- keep looking.

Wish I could offer better info but the 3 you have chosen are good bikes. BUT- if you can't decide- Go for the shop that will give you the best deal- or offers you most confidence in them. And if you can hold on for a while- The 09 bikes will be discounted shortly (Couple of months) and you could save a substantial amount of money.

Just take the above advice. If the Trek is in the running with another, go with the Trek as the resale values on them are pretty high. Once you build up to 30, 40 and then 50+ mile rides, you will be back on here looking for advice trying to find a road bike.
