near miss
So I am coming home and my wife tells me she almost hit a cyclist. (obviously stuff for some serious cussing out, after all I preach to her regularly that she needs to be careful with so many bikes around in the summer if she drives around in her death cage).
So here's what happened: 4 way stop sign. She comes to the intersection first - stops, intending to make a left turn. A van approaches from the opposite and stops. She got first to the intersection so she slowly starts out to make the turn and a cyclist on a "race bike" speeds through the intersection - previously well hidden by the van (the cyclist passed the van from the left). No stopping, no pausing, no looking. If she had taken the turn any faster...
