Paid to ride my bike

I work doing research for my university's environmental design and manufacturing lab and I got put on a project doing waste assessments on the local metro parks so today I got paid for a couple of hours of riding around looking through the trash cans in the park to observe the contents and I and gonna have to do much more of this throughout the summer. Has anyone else done similar things to this? I thought it was interesting and I would share.

Not to be technical or anything, but it sounds more like you were paid to look through trash cans than paid to ride your bike. If you had traveled to the parks on a skateboard or car, you still would have been paid, right?

yes you would be correct. I was really paid to collect data from the trash. but i already ride my bike through the parks every day so i did it during my daily ride.

Not personally, but I often see homeless bike bums riding from trash can to trash can to root thru em.
I think they're collecting cans though, not necesarially recording data for the same program you are.

I try to be semi professional about it when I do it. I wear a university shirt and I carry my clip board and a yard stick to help go through it. Some of the people I work with were not willing to help because of the effort of having to ride or walk around so much. But I seen it as an opportunity to get a little extra exercise plus I enjoy riding in the parks. So I saw this as a win win situation even though I am digging through trash cans.
