So I am very inexperienced in the biking world (in fact, just learned a little less than a year ago) and I just bought my first bike rack. I have a woman's bike with a sloping bar, so when I mount it, it looks sorta odd. I want to know if thats how its suppose to be.




There's w/o the bike so you have an idea of how the bike rack is on its own...




And there it is with the bike mounted. Is that correct?

it looks weird because it is, though I suspect that it'll work just fine. I see people with bikes on racks like that all the time and there's evidently no problems with it.

But if you're concerned, I've seen these for sale. There's an adapter bar that goes between the seat post and the head tube I believe to give the bike a bar more akin to a "men's" style bike.

It sticks out a lot to the left - that would worry me a bit as in a tight squeeze it might hit another car. I wonder if you should stick the left rack support on the seat stay behind the seat, if you can clamp it there.

Is that rigid enough for this use?

I've travelled over a thousand miles in a car using a crossbar adapter, most of it at interstate speeds. Ones from reputable companies work extremely well; we used the Saris Bike Beam.
