No offense to the Hybrid people...

But Creating a Hybrid forum is NOT the same as lumping it in with "General Cycling".

Just need to make it into a failblog link this way I'm all for having a Hybrid forum, but not at the cost of the one that was here.

No offense taken, For the moment I believe it is a temporary arangement. The poll is running till the 18th. The results of the poll will determine the next step. The Hybrid marked forums in General Cycling will be moved to the Hybrid forum if it is determined to be created

If you don't read the Sticky - Hybrid Specific Forum thread - you are making a lot of false assumptions if you think this will be a permanent fix - sharing/invading General Cycling. Once the poll results are in - we either get our Hybrid Forum, leaving General Cycling, or we get nothing because roadie-zealots are having fun voting against us hybrid owners from being recognized.

In either event - General Cycling will return to normal. If the roadies succeed in enforcing discrimination simply because: "I don't like hybrids" - then I imagine quite a few people will be leaving for keeps.

Does it really require a lot of extra resources/bandwidth just to go ahead and create a Hybrid forum?

Thanks Timber.

And Panther, don't worry. So far the poll is looking in favor of having a Hybrid forum.

While you and the other Mods are at work finding an appropriate home for aficionados of a specific type of bicycle, so that General Cycling can once again be General cycling, why not start a cargo hauling bike forum for those fascinated by jumbo load hauling with xtra cycles, Big Dummy and other specialty equipment, and free up the Utility list for discussion of utility bicycling on bicycle-bikes?

This is what I don't get...if you are not interested in a hybrid forum or would not participate in it, what possible difference could it make to you if there is one??? There are a ton of forums I've never been to but it doesn't mean I am against them, nor would I make a point of posting against them just because they don't pertain to me. Sorry, just seems really bizarre to me.

I'll put that on my list. Right after The tall bikes forum, The pink girly step through bikes with tassels forum, The all blue bikes forum, The wood bike forum and The naked SSFG bikes forum. So it may be a while.

Hey I'm all for a happy reservation for them. As well as a cargo hauling list, a counter culure, car bashing Walmart haters list, and a tin foil hat list too. So the devotees of those subjects will stop cloging up other lists with their silly whining.

Good question. I think the answer is that some people just don't have very important lives and have nothing better to do than whine about things that make no difference to them. Yeah, that's it.

I ride a hybrid almost exclusively, Panthers007, but it really sounds like too much overlap. Pedals, saddles, etc. are usually posted in "General". This stuff is going to get less attention if only seen in the hybrid, or only in general forums.

hello guys, im not really getting this...help me understand what exactly is Hybrid Bicycling...i would think hybrid to mean motorized (gas or electric) or maybe its more of a filosophy, in which you get a road bike and make it a commuter grocery bike....

i for one enjoy watching 700c wheels with nice fenders, with big racks and headlamps...im not into racing so maybe im a hybrid kind of guy

Well your not very far off really, It is a combination of different technology to make something different or better in some cases or tailored to a specific task. Commercial Hybrid bicycles have a wide range of duties and are designed to morf into several tasks. Home grown Hybrids are the ones people have modified for what they need out of them. Here in lays the rub. The Hybrid has no place as it is everything yet it is a specific bicycle & there is a mindset that there owners have that is separate from everything else.

Hybrids, which are loosely defined as a cross between a road-bike and a mountain-bike, are one of the 3 most popular types of bicycles sold in the USA and Canada. They are also to be found in other nations under various names.

We are attempting to open a forum to focus on these immensely popular bikes. BikeForums.net has none - yet. By going to the poll on top of General Forum page, a YES vote will help us reach our goal of opening a Hybrid Forum - just as there is for both Road and Mountain bikes.

You would probably like my hybrid, a dumpster find in Heidelberg, Germany in 2001. With Sachs 5 speed Pentasport coaster hub. 622mm x 37mm tires. Trailer and hitch combo cost either $40 or 40 DM. Good for any purpose but racing.

This reminds me back in the 90s when the first crossover vehicles looking for a legitimate home. How it's call CUV or whatever it is. My question is... is my mtb a hybrid now that I switched to slicks and swap out the 42t chainrings to 48t? It even has rear racks and bar ends.

ok so i guess a hybrid forum would mean "non racing, road bikes" or something..cause we already got the alternative bike forum...so i guess the only thing different is that road bikers dont really tolerate "non racing road bikes" making any hybrid discussion difficult.
