Seeking thoughts/opinoins on late 80s Schwinn Traveler ...
Hey everyone, I apologize if this is the wrong forum to post this, but I am getting back into biking after a long hiatus, and instead of going all out right away and spending a ton on a new bike, I figure I'll give a used bike a try and see how well I take to it.
There's a guy selling a late-80s Schwinn Traveler for $125. The bike is in really nice shape. It's got new tires and tubes and a Sun Tour 5000 drive train.
My question is: It $125 a fair price, or am I better off spending another few hundred bucks to get a new bike?
I did a quick look and these appear to be a typical older 10 speed in the "better" range. Cro-Mo frame and all... (probably Cro-Mo main triangle).
If the bike is in VERY good condition, that is, the wheel bearings don't need to be rebuilt, the bottom bracket is OK, cables OK...Then with a new set of tires and tubes likely it's a decent buy.
If any of those things I mentioned needs work, and you can't do it yourself....A shop will charge you half again as much as the asking price.
See if he'll take 100.....
