    Having too many pieces of Topeak gear fail

    I thought that Topeak designs were at least somewhat well built.

    But the rate of failure for them is only slightly above the Performance Bike store-branded gear.

    I blogged about it. Really really ticked off, especially because it's often times Topeak-or-store-brand in the bike stores around here.

    I've had my Topeak Joe Blow pump fail several times, including once before I went back upstairs to change out of my riding clothes so I could drive to work after the pump let too much air out of the tire. That's enough for me, there are enough other brands to pick from to keep me from buying more of their products. I've had really good luck with the performance brand products I've bought with the exception of the valve caps. And I can live with those failing, they're easy to replace.

    I am happy so far with my Topeak racks and trunk bags. I have not bought other items from them.

    I really wish you guys would have told me this before I bought a Road Morph G pump. The pressure gauge on the pump tubing is crap.

    If you want a Morph style pump which seems to be decent quality take a look at the Lezyne Micro Floor Drive models. Not cheap but all machined aluminum construction with long hoses. The models with pressure gauges do use a similar in line hose design to the Road Morph pumps. I will be calibrating my on bike gauges versus my floor pump gauge as I figure for on road use the mini pump gauge is merely a ballpark pressure indicator.

    I forgot in my original post that I do have two Topeak Morph pumps. If they break on the road in use I will be POed.

    Bah... prolly just another item made from the same factory in Southwest China but relabeled depending on companies.

    If you are referring to the Lezyne Micro Floor Drive pumps they look NOTHING like any others on the market. Made in Taiwan and virtually all metal construction. Lezyne claims to own the factory in Taiwan where they are made. Still lighter than the Topeak Morph pumps but feel much sturdier IMO.

    Oddly enough, I was looking at one of those today. very nice, impressive details. I almost bought it despite the price tag of $60 Canadian.

    The lezyne pumps are excellent. I particularly like that they screw onto the valve rather than using the chuck with the the quick release.

    The gauge is not that great to read so I bought the version without the gauge but a gauge that small will only be able to give an indication of pressure. It cannot be that accurate.

    As to the pump- it is the only pump that will get my tyres to 120 psi without me having a heart attack or hernia through excersion. On top of that if you do have any problems with the pumps- can't talk about the rest of their stuff- It is covered with a warranty and when out of warramty I have heard that they are very helpfull.

    I heard good things about the road morph and I have 110 psi tires, so the high pressure is a definite nice feature. I was a little suprised that the guage worked so poorly based on what I'd heard about the topeak pumps.

    I'm still in the market for another pump, so I'll definitely check the Lezyne pumps out.

    yeah, tatfiend, you should write Lezyne and ask for a cut of the business you are drawing for them.

    Are we just talking about the pumps, My trunk and rack setup have been fine. Is there any other Topeak failure items

    The catch on the Ulock retainer is very weak in design but was wel documented on there web sight. I use a 24" Velcro
    strap to keep the lock in place an the stress off the catch from day 1

    My Topeak Road Morph G has saved my ass and my fellow riders' asses many a time. My Topeak Rack 'N' Lock (seen above) served me well for well over a year, even though, yes, the catch mechanism sucks. Then I got a separate U-lock and a Topeak Trunkbag DXP to stick on my Topeak rack, and that's my current setup.

    It all works exceptionally well.

    Are you using the under rack storage for you new U lock,I love that feature, I have the same trunk bag as well, fantastic setup

    The rack's u-lock rails fit only the included U-lock. I have yet to find an aftermarket U-lock that fits the rails, but that's fine since my aftermarket (Onguard mini) u-lock fits fine in the bag.
