I can't seem to find anyone that is as motivated as I am to ride bikes. My roommate has a road bike we ride together at times, but he's either too busy or too tired to go on any long trips. Is anyone else in this situation? Are there any social networking sites for cyclists? Maybe some sites that list cycling events? (besides this forum) I need to find some people to ride with.

Have you checked or posted in the Community Connections part of this forum? I am not sure exactly where in Indiana you are located, but check the general USA regions that are nearest Indiana.

I found ride partners in the Texas sub-forum.

Another place to check is local bike shops. Some shops will even have multiple rides, for people of differing speeds and levels of ability.

Check your local cycling association (they should have a website) and see what clubs are in your area.

Try local bicycle clubs and bicycle store websites for various rides.

I used to run into this while hiking, and now do while riding. Nobody else is going the same distance, the same speed, the same time, etc., so it's off by myself.

Thats my problem. Two of my really good friends just moved out of state and the few that hasnt are to busy with their own lives. My kids are 4, so that def cant keep up and I cant get my wife to do that stuff, so I'm usually off on my own, which gets kinda boring after a bit. But at least I have no one to worry bout but myself....

One "social networking site" is the premises of the bike shop itself. Get to know the employees and regular customers and, basically, one thing will lead to another.

Forget agbout having to get to know them. Just walk in and ask. Of course the more you can tell tehm about what you want in a ride the more thay can help.

Local shops want you to find people to ride with, it is all gain for them. You ride more you buy more. If you find a group that also has classes and you learn to maintain your bike, no loss to the shop. That part is pretty much break even and sometimes is even a bottleneck for a shop.

Again do know what you want. Social or racing? How fast? How far? Attitudes about keeping a group togeather and/or regrouping.

Also stay realistic. With a fair sized club there will be establsihed social groups, even with very nice to newcomer groups you will to some degree be 'the new kid'. Expect things to improve over time as you make friends.

I also advise people to learn to give a decent wheel. If your wheel is easy to hold then you increase the number of riders who can have a decent ride with you.

Try the Elkhart Bicycle Shop maybe they do too.
