Cannondale Fetish
I'll admit it..I love Cannondale bikes..I know people call them Crack'N'Fails and all sorts of other stuff, but I love Cannondales. Check this outhttp://sumtercap.homestead.com/files...00_spec_02.jpg
Unfortunetly it costs over 2000. |
Yes I like Cannondales too. I have a M900 MTB which is a full rigid bike on slicks, and it is very fast for a MTB.
I find I can go into corners a lot faster on this bike than my road bike. The extra rubber and better brakes make all the difference. My next road bike will be a Cannondale also... (starts daydreaming) sometime in the far future. I think I like the fact they are made in the USA, there is something nice about those little "made in the USA" stickers with the flag on them. It sounds nicer than made in Taiwan, even though I have two bikes that were made there. CHEERS. |
I believe Cannondale had some problems early on with frames cracking, but they sorted those out ages ago and now make some of the finest Al frames around. (disclosure - I have an F700 MTB)
It's a credit to the frame that I recently took an imact in the rear from a car and the frame barely even went out of alignment (<3mm) let alone cracked (not to mention the Mavic rim that didn't even need truing). In racing circles over here, you ride Italian or nothing, Cannondale being the noticeable exception. Try getting a warranty job done on an Italian frame and it'll be tears before midnight. Cannondale - no problem. It's got that finest of American institutions beind it: good customer service. My younger brother races A/B grade and has two 'Dales, and laughs at the problems his mates have when they crack their Italian show-ponies. |
When I was starting out in Mountain biking (1990), Cannondales seemed to be at the peak of the industry, and I wanted one bad so bad infact that I started a nasty habit of drooling whenever I saw one!!!
They're still up there in my belief, and it'll be interesting to see how they do in the Motor bike world. Not too sure about the Scapel, I think out of all of them, I'd go for the F4000... Ride hard boyz!! Rich |
Look at this Road bike....http://www.cannondale.com/bikes/02/i...0d_spec_02.jpg
And you can get it in the Ice/Blue fade color. |
Hey Dutchy, i have the same bike as you! a 97` M900, black.
Its now finally promoted as "the touring bike" , do you have the original BB as well? I think my next MTB would be a Cannondale, Kona, or Rocky Mountain, but hey that sounds like another 3 years of saving  |
Nice looking bike (for a MTB), but, can that top tube be fixed????:D BTW, I'm still considering a CAAD 4 or 5 for my next road bike project. Can somebody tell me-are there decent BB's for the CAAD5 frame available? I want to build from the frame up, but my CDale dealer tells me that CODA BB's are the only ones that fit. I don't want any CODA bearings in my bike-it's going to be all campy, if possible. |
ahhh the cannondale cult!!!
so far i've always been a steel-bike kinda gal, but i am about the join the club. the shop i work/ride for will be on c-dales this year. my caad5 frame should be in next week. any tips on making this bike more comfortable for a 110lb-er? i'm thinking ti seatpost...but i'm open to suggestions. |
Poptart - you want a comfy frame ? Go for a custom steel - aaaaaaar, that Ferrari handling with the Lexus ride quality ;) !
Naaah, seriously, my MTB frame is Columbus Chromor Or (fairly narrow round Cro-Mo) and my friends is Columbus Max Or (quite fat, very thin walled Cro-Mo with ovalising at the ends depending on joint) and I find his MTB way too stiff, sure, the handling is microscopically more precise but it's so tiring on his, you can tell if it's heads or tails if you ride over a penny -. As for Aluminium, don't get me started... |

But you know the saying "Don't look a gift bike in the headtube"(or sumthin' like that). :D Actually i'm excited to try something different. |
I would have to give cannondale a thumbs down

I have to give Cannondale one thumbs up for a fairly nice product line, but one thumbs down for support from Cannondale itself.
I own two Cannondales: An RT3000 Tandem and a R600 3 point whatever... I'm happy enough with them I also own an Aegis, now this is a two thumbs up product. Both in product quality and manfacturers support....both top of the line! |
I wonder what carbon sounds like when it snaps........*chainstays* |

IMHO, the Canondale concept of fat ultra-stiff tubes works best with really big riders, heavy loads, or tandems.
For smaller than average riders, with shorter than average tubes, fat tubes build into a massively stiff frame, yet are ridden by less powerful riders. It just doesnt make sense. There are other fine Al frames out there. Have you guys in the US heard of Principia from Denmark ? These are the best riding Al bikes, and a favourite with pros and smaller teams who buy their own frames. |
IMHO C'dales are way over priced ( in Oz anyway), some of the models we have in the shop have such a mixture of parts on them that it looks like C'dale needed to clear out some crap that was sittin around ,,for the same price as a C'dale road bike w/ mixture ultegra , I can get myself a Pinnarello w/veloce' grouppo , the choice is very simple I think : coke can with mixture of parts from 5 different companys or an Italian stallion with parts that were designed to work with each other !! ........
|
Italian bikes are cool, I've got nothin' against them..I've got one! But I just don't get as fired up about them as I do Cannondales. I was a t a shop the other day and they had a black R700..It was so nice! They also had a steel Pinarello outside but I didn't see a price.
