Bike Fitting

Has anyone ever gone to the local LBS for a bike fitting after telling the owner up front that you are not buying, just need to know your personal requirements/measurements ?? Will they even do that ?? And if so, will they charge you a fee ??

Why would you think they wouldn't charge after you have told them you aren't buying there?

It is a business after all...

If you don't want to buy from them, then just ask, "How much for a fit session?" Pay agreeably, and you'll get their better, if not best, efforts.

I wonder about this. I had some trouble with my knees some time back, and solicited the advice of the folks in this forum. I solved my problem using that advice, plus common sense, listening to my body, and making the adjustments as to saddle height, crank length, etc., and riding cautiously until I got it right. When you have a problem, many people advise "get a fitting". Who are these fitters, anyway? Are they certified physiologists? Sports-medicine MD's? How do you choose one of them over another? I wonder if you don't stand a good chance of compounding your problems with them. What do you folks think?

One of the largest bike stores around here quotes rates for bike fittings, with the cost being deductible from a new bike if you buy it there within 90 days or something, and that seems like a reasonable way to do it.
