Upgrading my ride. SRAM Force or Ultegra??

I have an old (but still beautiful) bike and want to put new components on it. I'm not spending the ridiculous money on Dura-Ace or SRAM Red, but I want good stuff. I've read many places that Force and Ultegra offer performance close to that of their top of the line counterparts. The difference is mainly weight savings. I'm certainly not at the level where a few grams are worth a few hundred dollars.

I was hoping to get some opinions as to which most people feel is the better group. FORCE or Ultegra. It seems they're pretty close in price most places. I know Shimano has the track record but it seems like SRAM is coming on strong. Thanks very much for any input.

I hate how the SRAM shifters feel. Can you say "mode error"? Same lever to shift up and doen. Lame!

My first two bikes had shimano (105 then Ultegra), but I tried SRAM and will never go back to Shimano again. I say go with Force or even Rival if you want to save a few $$$.

Never had SRAM, only Ultegra and Dura Ace. Before you decide, did you have a chance to read up on the difference between Ultegra and Dura Ace?
