TREK 7.3 or GIANT CYPRESS
Hi guys
Im looking to get out of the gym and start riding on the road and may eventually start riding to work. I dont know if i should spent $1000 on a bike the GIANT is less expensive really confused what you guys think i should do? |
You don't need to spend $1000 if it doesn't fit your budget-especially if you aren't sure cycling will be your cup of tea. There are plenty of used bikes available on www.craigslist.org, at yard sales, etc. After you have ridden a while, you will have a better idea what suits your needs-and what doesn't.
That said, I recently tried an '09 Trek FX 7.3 and found it to be a decent ride overall. The one I rode seemed to be a bit noisy when shifting gears. (It may have needed an adjustment; YMMV.) The Cypress is another popular model, but don't choose based on price alone. In the end, the best bike for you is the one that fits well and gives you the level of enjoyment that makes you go out and ride. |

Hate to say it but if you are thinking about road riding- or commuting- then I wouldn't buy either of these bikes. There is a form of bike that is basically a road bike with straight handlebars. The one I am thinking of is the Giant FCR- that will be called the "Rapid" for 2010. I have several friends that have FCR's for distance rides and Commuting and they are delighted with the bike.

They both start at sensible prices for the lower models and go up as the quality improves. |
Cypress. But I'm admittedly biased.

Comfort hybrids like the Cypress are nice to start commuting on - upright posture keeps you visible in traffic. You don't need to spend $$$ though...I would get a used bike and see if you like cycling first before you drop a lot of cash.
