In DC, need Bike

Hey guys,

I'm a commuter from Minneapolis coming to DC for the Solar Decathlon. Can anyone loan me a bike while I'm in town? (beer exchange, fixing a beater up exchange, personal tour of sweet solar house exchange, etc.)

Take it easy,
Meag

Ask the folks in the Southeast Regional subforum.

Sorry. DC isn't in a subforum.

I'll probably ride down there myself next weekend. I'll stop in at the UofM entry and see what you got.

The bike station is for long term, secure lockup, mostly for commuters. Not for rental.
DC has a smart bike program with rental locations in several spots downtown.

I was talking with the folks at Bike and Roll who got the contract to man the Bike Station and they told me they would also be renting bikes from there. Should be easy enough to confirm.

Thanks

Thank you for all the great suggestions, guys. I'm borrowing a bike from a nice lady working down at the capital.

You're right, HC. I stopped by the bike station this weekend and Bike and Roll is doing rentals. The bike station website still doesn't mention it.
It's an interesting structure. More like a sculpture than a building. Photo is from the north side. It's a bit dark. No sun on this side of Union Station until late afternoon, which is just as well since it would be like an oven in there.

Glad it worked out. I was down there Sunday morning. Took a lot of outside photos, but the lines were too long to wait to see the insides. Might stop back in next weekend.
Looks like your school is doing ok. 7th as of this morning (which is better than mine.)

Ok, cool; I don't have my usual loaner bike now anyway, and besides, unless you're tall, you'd have trouble even getting ON the darned thing.

Well just don't steal one while you're in town!!

....sorry, for that little outburst. I live in Virginia near DC, and I just had my bike stolen and am very weary/bitter towards the area now.

Don't forget to lock your bike with a u-lock AND a cable lock!
