Directions by bike comming soon to Google Maps
From Google Maps blog:
"cyclists will now find many more trails and paths to explore. Soon we even plan on providing you with biking directions to take advantage of this new data" Wahoo!!! |
They showed the rig they're using on the Today show this morning. It's a pedal-tricycle with a panoramic camera rig in back of the rider. They didn't mention the weight of the thing, but it looked like it would be a job to get through some of the rougher areas.

http://bikeportland.org/2009/09/08/g...and-this-week/ quote: “I was biking out near Airport Way on [the I-205 bike path] a couple of hours ago and came across the Google Maps Bike. He was riding the ramps up and down from Airport Way to the 205 multi-use path. He’s part of a team from San Diego that trucks the bike(s) around and rides/maps. The setup weighs 300 lbs and he rode 20 miles yesterday.” Personally, I like http://ridewithgps.com/ |
They are taking requests to map trails, et al with the trike. Put in a request for your favorite trail.

That would be sweet, but I'd much rather have some results when searching for bike trails.
