question about the website

I love how the website bolds the titles of threads I haven't read yet, or ones that have been updated since I read them. But it keeps removing the bold every time I close my browser or browse away from the site and come back, even if I haven't read it yet, and I lose my place. Is there a way to force it to keep the bold titles?

No, it doesn't track whether or not you've read something, it tracks whether or not something has changed since your last visit. These are two completely different things.

The cookie that is set says something like, "last visit was 10/20/2009 at 09:39 am CDT". When you return, it highlights only those threads changed since then. Within a thread, while it says "View first unread" it really means "View first since last visit".

There *are* boards which track reading right down to the post level. The one at BikeJournal.com is one. But it's entirely custom written, and suffers from a huge overhead of tracking every single post and whether or not it's been read by each individual member. It can take over 30 seconds just to move from page to page within a thread.

I deleted the cookies username@bikeforums.net[n].txt and username@www.bikeforums.net[n].txt under Documents and Settings\username\Cookies, but the titles still aren't in bold. What am I missing?
