Lovin' the early morning rides
So I just started a new job, and it required me to bike 5 K for my first shift, at 4:45 AM. I started today.
I loved how quiet the world was at this time. On a major street where cars never stop during the day, 2 cars went by.
I can't wait for my next morning shift, cause I loved the ride And the work wasn’t too bad either.
The only interruption to my nice ride was a cop pulled me over and asked what I was doing out and about so early. I said I was off to my morning shift at fortinos, and i showed him my badge. we had some small talk, then went our separate ways.
riding in uniform was pretty hard, but other then that and the cop stopping me, it was an awesome ride

It's funny, I've never been a morning person *at* all, but cycling on the quiet streets sure is changing my opinion of the "wee hours." That and it's around 100°F in the afternoons lately.

I'm kind of opposite, but hit the same hours - if it's actually slow at work, I can take of at 3 or 4 am and ride around for awhile before heading home. It's great! No cars, no peds, just me and the road or the trail....
Too bad it hasn't been slow enough at work for me to do that in awhile. Most of the time it's heading opposite of the incoming morning traffic through downtown now at 7 or 8 am

this morning, i raced a thunderstorm
it was the sacriest thing ever. i was whippin down the middle of a 4 lane street, with a HUGE thunder storm following behind. it was really close too cause the lightning was 2-3 seconds ahead of the thunder.
i almost won too. when i was in Fortinos parking lot, it started to pour.

Ha, haven't had that happen to me yet. I tend to enjoy the mid evening rides while the sun is setting and the heat isn't all that bad. I caught a nice sunset yesterday, after rush hour traffic tends to be alright.

I too have never been much of a morning person, but my job has required me to be at work at 7am for the past few years, I am forced. But since I started cycling to work instead of driving, I have to get up even earlier (about 5:30am) to make it with time to spare. Mind you, I don't leave the house until 6:15am. Now I actually think about getting up early because I *want* to. Bike rides on the weekends at those times are just wonderful. No traffic, no exhaust fumes and noise, just me and the road or bike path/trail.
