Does anybody here inline skate as well as cycle? I read the skating can help your cycling..So I'm looking into a pair of skates.

I do some Fubar. As in bike buying, get a decent pair if you're going to get them. Wal-Mart skates are like their bikes. I got a pair of Bauer's a couple years ago. Look at the ABEC rating of the bearings. I think mine are ABEC 3's. Even an ABEC 1 is way better than some of the bearings on skates I've seen at Wally World. They will roll unbelieveably better than the standard bearings.

Thanks DG! I'm looking at either RollerBlade or Salomon right now. I don't want to spend more than 150 though.

I have an old pair of Macroblades by rollerblade.
They are great for building up Quads.
agree with Dirtgrinder, don't buy cheap ones.
K2 make nice ones.
I would suggest not going for trick skates (small wheels?)
as they are more for doing stupid things on stair
rails etc. like skateboarding.
5 wheels for racing, 4 for us normal folks.

Skating does help cycling, fubar. You're right on that. A lot of cyclists are also speedskaters during the off season. Chris Witty went to the Olympics for cycling & also to the winter Olympics for speedskating (she won the 1000-meter!). So, inline skating should help you, too, just like speedskating since it's basically the same thing.

I used to rollerblade my paper routes every day after school. But since I quit them I havent dont alot.

I used to be an avid 'blader. I bought a pair of less expensive Rollerblade and upgraded the bearings and wheels. One important aspect is "rocking", skates that rock have the two center wheels slightly lower so all four are not touching the ground at the same time. This makes them more manuverable, however some like them not to rock. Most good skates have adjustable axles on the center wheels to accomodate either setup. Mine didn't so I bought slightly larger wheels for the center.

Do the skates support the ankles?. I've always fancied it, but my motorbike crash left me with a damaged right ankle.

I do a lot of blading in the summer. I hurt my ankle awhile back and although i could not bike the stiff uppers on the blades gave me the support i needed and was able to stay active while i was recovering. I got a great pair of K2 ascents for $150.

there are soft boot and hard boots for the skate just like. shopping for a good bike you go to a bike shop so for good skate go to a skate shop. Tell them what you need and they should be able to help out.

There is a shopo in Columbia that has K2's on sale 50 % percent off. I'm gonna go over there and see what they have.

Bike paths in Atlanta do have a good purpose! (Besides a place for people to walk their dogs.)

I've got a pair of inlines, although I don't use them all that much, spend most of my time on the bike.

It is enjoyable, though, and gives you a great workout. Just make sure you learn how to stop before you go too far!
