Where do I find the serial number?

My spouse just got a Novara Transfer. She diligently wanted to record the serial number. Looked at the bike. I assumed the serial number would be on the seat post, just above the bottom bracket. Nothing there. Looked all over. No little decal thingy to say what the serial number is. I turned the bike upside down, but nothing there.

So, where do we look for the serial number on newer bikes?

Thanks!
Mark

Hmm.

I was going to say turn the bike upside down, but you already did that.

Call the bike shop where you got the bike and ask?

Good point. So I call REI. They the numbers imprinted in the metal are the serial numbers (my spouse was sure they were something else). Is this something new? Formerly, serial numbers were usually on some metal tag.

Thanks
Mark

I found mines under the bike located on the downtube close to the bottom of the bottom bracket.

By far the most popular place for serial numbers is the bottom bracket shell, on the bottom. I have seen a few stamped into the head tube, and a few on the rear dropout.
There are no industry standards....

The problem with using a separate metal plate is that they are easy to pry off.

Have never had a bike that didn't have numbers imprinted in the metal. Not that I can remember, anyway.

I have one frame, a early 1970s Peugeot, with the serial number on a tag on the BB shell. A Japanese frame with it on the seat tube, stamped in, above the BB. All the rest have it stamped on the BB shell except for my approximately 84 Colnago which seems to be unserialized.

For what its worth, there are two sets of numbers. From some other forum, it appears that the number set on the non-drive side of the BB is the actual serial #. So what is the other number? The model?

I can find no serial or VIN number of any kind anywhere on my 2009 Kestrel RT800.

It wouldn't be hidden inside the bottom bracket somewhere, would it? I've written the manufacturer and the dealer. No response
