Ordering New Bike - How Long for Delivery

I placed an order for a new bike (Specialized Secteur Elite - 61 cm) at the end of September and as of last week the LBS has not yet received it. Does it normally take this long?

It depends on a couple of things. First, how quickly the dealer placed the order and if they're grouping it with other orders. Second, if the bike is not in stock in your size, you'll be waiting for it to be made, then shipped on the proverbial slow boat from China.

Going by the size, I'm guessing the latter of these two.

A friend ordered a 44 cm Bianchi in early February last year, and got it in mid-May. Once it was on the boat, the LBS was able to keep her updated on delivery time. Before that it was just "in the queue".

Edit: Doesn't change the fact that it's frustrating.

Lots of variables to consider. In October, I ordered a new 2010 Specialized road bike, and my buddy ordered a new Specialized MTB at the same time. I had mine in less than two weeks, his took nearly a month. Depends on how much inventory the manufacturer has, how many orders ahead of yours, distance from the manufacturer's warehouse to your LBS, etc.

It depends on whether your dealer ordered a single bike. Many bike shops will wait until they have multiple bikes before making an order, because shipping cost per bike is lower. If that is what they did, it may take a while because not too many people are ordering bikes in winter.

Different Marque in Giant and a different country- but My LBS goes on line with the customer to see if the bike(s) are available at the Concessionaires- that is if they do not have it in stock in the right size. Occasionally it is unavailable from stock and then they will get onto different shops to see if they have one they can borrow.

My last TCR-C took 3 days to arrive and my mates MTB took 6.

Took about 5 days to get my new bike from the factory in Kansas to my LBS in October.

Is it a 2010? I sell Fuji and some sizes are available and some are not. If it's available, I get them in 1-2 days. Of course if they don't have it, it takes longer. I have bikes on order from Oct. and they will not be available until sometime in Jan.
