Mt. Washington Hill Climb in New Hampshire, USA.

Interesting multi page article in this month's Outside Magazine:

Only two days per year - a practice day and a hill climb day.

Climb 4,727 feet (to 6,288 feet above sea level) in 7.6 miles.

Average grade of 12 percent

Sustained 18 percent grades.

Top grade of 22 percent.

Steeper than any climb in any major Tour - considered the toughest one-day bike ride in the world.

72 turns

Terrible weather possible, even in August. Snow, ice, fog (even in August) and winds have been clocked in winter at 231 miles per hour. This year dozens of folks were blown off their bikes, some several times.

Record is 49:35 (minutes, that is)

Anybody here done this climb?

Think I will get in shape and give it a go!

It's Mt Washington, and it's in New Hampshire.

Has the steepest road sections in the country... possibly the world. I don't think I want to try it anytime soon! Or ever! lol And, you can't ride down, you have to SHUTTLE DOWN the hill!
