anyone heard of Bicycle Parts Wholsalers

I am looking into starting an ebay bike shop and I came across this distributor. It seems kinda shady. You pay them $50 for a membership then you can order parts from a distributor they use and they tack on another 7%. without a store front it is hard to get any other distributor to work with you so this is one of my only options. Has anyone dealt with this company before or have any other ideas?

No way to tell from the web site where in the world they are located. That's something to think about.

Sounds pretty flaky, actually. No address and a Yahoo email are not good signs. It doesn't appear English is the native language there, either. And a place that wants to charge you a membership fee before you can find out the prices is not a good sign, either. They talk about selling stuff on Ebay themselves, and it would be simple enough to show their Ebay store, but they don't even do that.

the website is registered to a company in Puerto Rico, here is their website the address is on the "Contact" page.

http://www.ramblabikepr.com/

Personally I wouldn't have a thing to do with it, don't think it's bogus, just not terribly well thought out scheme.

Probably cheaper and easier to buy from PBK/CRC/Ribble/other online retailer.

I'll bet they are in Indonesia. If they put up a website - it's likely a paste-over of a good website. And they'll be happy to take any form of payment you can provide!

The check is in the mail.

Now they've written back - no credit-cards. PayPal will work. I advise not ordering. It smells like a week-old fish. They do say they're in Puerto Rico.

There's a gazillion of these scams out there.

They all ask for a membership fee up front — before you know anything at all about their business practices. Send off your money, and it's the last you'll ever hear from them! Stay well clear.

As a public service, you could buy a membership and then order some gear from them. And then report back on how it goes.

.......or, better yet, don't even consider for a moment dealing with them.

Hi

I read all your posts and I understand your doubts. My name is Jorge Lopez, I'm the owner also of Rambla Bike. We have been in business from 1997. Last year I open this company to reach to the world from our tiny island of Puerto Rico. Really is not wholesale, because the real wholesale is getting the parts directly from the big guys like QBP or Seattle by having a physical store. We are the medium from them to the public. Is like Sam's club, you receive a good discount from 25 to 35 of the MSRP. We keep commission because we are a business. You will find cheaper prices on the net or Ebay on hot items. We are focusing on the regular person who want to save. On hot product you will not profit from ebay buying from us, but in hard to get items, NOS or niche markets will do. Few days ago I post in ebay, like 15 diferent brake adapter that cost me 2 or 3 bucks, or left over from new brakes, and they sold fast from 8 to 15 bucks. Most of them were sold to customer in UK, Australia, Netherlands, Urugay. My 70% of clients are international in ebay and members of Bicycle Parts Wholesaler. Because we are the only company like that on the net, everyone will think we are a scam. This year was a hit on memberships and orders, more that my actual store. In the near future I will close the physical store and devote completely to online. if you have any question, send a email to bicyclepartswholesaler@yahoo.com and my phone is 787 449 7002.
We prefer email, because I speak Spanish and is faster by email.
Hope this clears all your doubts
see you soon
Jorge Lopez

here is the story according to him BPW

Iím not a fool neither a scammer, here is why and my side of the story.

First you placed the order from us, and we work out every aspect of it with fast responses. Also told you to use paypal because is the safest way to pay online and I invite you to join paypal to continue with the order.

I sent you the paypal request, you paid it in 2 parts, and then I place your order with my supplier. I first quote you $150 dollars in shipping to Australia, but for my mistake I didnít take in to account that your parts were mostly low end parts from Shimano, that have to many parts in steel and weight a ton. I had to pay another $200 to bring your order to my office, when regularly I paid $50.

Then when I receive your order and see why I paid so much, because your order total weight is 150 pounds or 70 kilos. When I put that amount in the paypal shipping service, it quote me around $700 dollars!

After that I sent you an email stating that you need to pay the difference. Then I use the quote using Large Flat rate boxes and the quote drop to around $460. You told me to send it by sea, because it was much cheaper.

Sea quote history

I first used the USPS parcel service(by sea), but then a discover that United States Postal Service cancel this service to international destinations. Then I call all our local and Miami Sea Parcel service companies for quote the shipping to you. All quotes that I receive that also were sent to you by email, were around $500 to $600 and take 60 days to arrive to you. Also one that cost 370, arriving in 45 days.

http://bicyclepartswholesaler.com/quote1.pdf

http://bicyclepartswholesaler.com/quote2.pdf

If USPS had the parcel service for international countries, you will have your goods already, but this was no possible.

Then we reach a medium point. I will pay the $155 from my pocket and you also, the same amount, to be shipped by USPS Priority Mail using the Large Flat rate boxes and then when you receive your goods, you will pay your part($155)

Few days later you open a Paypal Case against us, and my account went Negative $1,400, that is the amount of your current order and also in my account, were $500 that I canít use, because the negative balance.

I told you to cancel the case, because all the money to pay the $460 in shipping charge were in Paypal, but you refuse.

Because you were very stubborn, and inflexible in this case, I continue with the paypal case, Paypal ask me for a tracking number, thatís why I sent you one item only, thinking, that paypal will reopen my account as soon I enter the tracking number and then I can use the money to print all the shipping labels(8) totaling $460 to send your order as soon as possible and ends this dispute. But as soon I enter the tracking number paypal, they update the case, stating they will reach a decision in July 20th, 15 days more to wait, if the reopen my case. In that time you receive the rear derailleur and you are calling me a fraud and scammer also in other webpages. I donít told you that the thing I sent you was no the complete order, because you will tell paypal and they will not reopen my account, that restrain me to pay for your shipping labels. If I had $500 in my pocket, before you open the paypal case, I will pay for shipping, but in my case, the only way is to use the money that is my paypal account.

My company Bicycle Parts Wholesaler, begins in 2008 with 100 members already. We never had any problem with any member. Because you were in Australia, I never send you a paypal request to pay me the $50 membership fee.

I never meant to this to happen. This is a very particular issue. I had in my office your complete order. Here is the link of the proof.

http://bicyclepartswholesaler.com/pa...%20%282%29.jpg

http://bicyclepartswholesaler.com/pa...le%20austr.jpg

http://bicyclepartswholesaler.com/pa...%20%283%29.jpg

My only concern is that you receive your goods.

If in the end, paypal decides to pay you, and leave me with your complete order(that I have to sell it in Ebay, all items individually to recuperate my money), please by kind, and erase all those bad messages you post in different website about talking that Iím a scammer, that will hurt my business to attract new customers.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Cheers

Jorge Torres

Also my other business is call Rambla Bike, in Puerto Rico. Ramblabikepr.com

It sounds like he tried to make good on a bad situation and his one major failure was not communicating with you exactly what happened and why with 100% accuracy. That situation is a nightmare for small sellers and I actually feel bad for the guy because he may have had no intention to defraud anyone but because of the freeze on his paypal account funds he may have more people that think he's a scammer now.

The actions he claims to have taken and his attempting to fix things without communicating to you that there is/was a problem can probably be attributed in part to a cultural difference.

Overall, not a fun situation for anyone involved.

Hi

I hope the letter explains for itself and the photos. This is my first issue with a member. I know my mistake was not to calculate the exact shipping charge and also don't take in to account how expensive is the shipping to Australia. But we reach a middle point, as soon we reach a middle point, you open a paypal dispute and that enlarged the problem. If you hadn't open the dispute, you will be having by now the bicycle parts and selling them.
I have been in the bicycle business from 1997 in Ponce, PR. We are a small operation, we are the middle man from regular customer to the supplier. Mostly my customers are people with home businesses that sells parts and fix neighbors and friends bikes.
I have all your the goods in my office, as demonstrated in the photos. I don't know what will be the outcome in the paypal decision.
By now, I can't make any business and I have to tell current members to wait until this is resolved.
Sorry for my English or grammar, my native language is Spanish.
If anybody have any questions or doubts, please feel to contact me by posting in this forum or by email: bicyclepartswholesaler@yahoo.com

I know, the customer is angry, and accused me of fraud in different websites, like
http://www.ripoffreport.com/hobby-sh...ge-l-c589a.htm
and
http://www.scam.com/blog.php?b=10775&styleid=2

I hope in the end, my paypal account re-instated, he receive the goods and those messages deleted, to heal my reputation.

Regards
Jorge Lopez
