what would you do for a drilled out kickstand ??

through an unusual sequence of events, I am now in possession of a Austro Daimler Vent Noir... ahh classique...

it came with a drilled out kickstand. I need to get a pic of this beauty.

my question is: WTF should I do with it? maybe I will make it a prize for the best youtube video posted in ode of this fine piece of german engineering...

Maybe mentioning about it in C&V in the pay it forward thread will help.

I think you should first post pics of the bike and the kickstand. then you should leave the kickstand on the bike and use it. these are fabulous bikes and you should treat it like an antique car. do occasional club rides and long leasurily sunday rides on it. then when you stop for a bagel and coffee you will look cool with your kickstand.

ok- camera is in my pocket for when I go back home.

sorry no refunds. call 1800-HIINDIA to complain.

will get pictures- I promise. and the half drilled chainrings. Sorry, I have been sooo busy riding (so warm 40F!), drinking, and watching human giant and adult swim. college break...

sorry to miscredit the glory- not german, Austrian engineering

the temp plan is putting it in the trainer. someday it may see the outdoors, say for rando rides..I have what- 9-ish bikes.. I need to do a census one of these days..

Is there a reason to believe this road bike came stock with a kick stand? Just asking.

Well now this got me wondering why we don't have drilled kickstands... I can easily imagine a tapered I beam that comes down to a small square pad that becomes the landing spot for the kickstand. Now drill the tapered I beam and you have a drilled yet strong kickstand that weighs nearly nothing, but is plenty strong.

not a troll, although I do live under a bridge. I dont have internet at my apartment, so its a mission to get them uploaded. but I promise to follow thru! such things are timeless..

I think the kickstand may have indeed been stock.. the original owner is long gone..

I Looked up the bike on line and did find some articles and I don’t see any with kickstands. I did see one someone totally restored but it didn’t have a kickstand either. The reason being I wanted to see a picture of a drilled kickstand. I don’t see it listed on the spec sheet either. I am beginning to suspect it was an add-on after market. I have a friend that has an old Raleigh steel bike with rod breaks and he got a rear axle kickstand from a company in India that still makes bikes like it. I will continue to research it to see. But like some suggested the classic bike forum might be better informed than we are.
I am not emphatic about it not being stock.

Is it confirmed that it's indeed a drilled-for-lightness kickstand and not just an adjustable-length version? If it's a lightened kickstand, I'd do exactly like Bianchigirll said and keep it on the bike just for showing off.

Some rudimentary Google searching didn't turn up anything, but that doesn't meant that lightened kickstands don't exist, either.
