From what I remember, the Sirrus changed it's design in 2001 to a more relaxed geometry bike, so the flat-bar Sirrus you see today has been around since 2001. The previous Sirrus version has been around since at least the early 90s (I know I've come across a '92), and I think was specced with drop bars, more like a standard road bike. They share the name, but not much else.

I own a late 90's Sirrus. It is VERY similar to the Allez of the same period. Standard road geometry, drop bars, Shimano RX100 8-speed w/downtube shifters.
I LOVED that bike. (My first road bike) It was wrecked in a car accident. I had the frame straightened, and still have it. Someday, I'll build it back up.
